Quality Control & Testing Standards

Asterism's TPU football shoe sole QC protocol is structured for high-volume OEM brand programs, covering raw material grade verification, injection process control, full sole assembly bond integrity, and batch traceability.

Material grade verification. Each TPU resin lot is verified by melt flow index (190°C / 10 kg, ASTM D1238), FTIR spectral fingerprint matching against the approved grade specification, and Shore D hardness check. Polyester and polyether grades are differentiated by FTIR carbonyl peak position and hydrolysis test pre-screening. Glass-fiber content is confirmed by ash test (ISO 3451-1) for reinforced grades. Resin is dried at 95–105°C for 4 hours to moisture below 0.03% before processing.

Injection process control. Barrel temperature is profiled across 5 zones (feed 165°C → nozzle 205°C) within ±3°C, and mold temperature is held at 40–55°C by a dedicated chiller. Injection speed, holding pressure (80–110 MPa), and cooling time are locked per cavity and logged by the machine's process data system. Shot weight is auto-weighed to ±0.3 g per cavity, and any out-of-tolerance shot is diverted. For full sole unit assembly, EVA midsole bonding uses corona-treated TPU surface (≥ 38 dynes/cm) and solvent-free PU adhesive at 4–6 bar press for 15–20 seconds.

Physical destructive testing (per batch, AQL 2.5).

  • Hardness - Shore D durometer, 5 readings per sole, ASTM D2240.
  • DIN abrasion - 40 m travel, 10 N load, DIN 53516.
  • Flex resistance - Ross flex tester, 120,000 cycles at 22.5°, SATRA TM161.
  • Stud pull-out and shear - universal testing machine, custom fixtures, 50 mm/min.
  • Hydrolysis - jungle test chamber, 70°C / 95% RH, periodic inspection for cracking, tackiness, and peeling.
  • Sole unit bond peel - TPU outsole to EVA midsole, 25 mm strip, 300 mm/min, ≥ 6 N/25 mm after 24 h cure.
  • Dimensional accuracy - CMM, stud height ±0.2 mm, sole curvature ±0.5 mm, last-fit verification on 3 consecutive sizes.
  • Color consistency - spectrophotometer ΔE ≤ 1.2 against approved master.
  • Weight - electronic scale, per-cavity sorting, cavity-to-cavity variation ≤ 3%.

Chemical and regulatory testing. Finished soles are screened by GC-MS for REACH SVHC and ICP-OES for RoHS restricted elements. Full sole units with EVA midsole are additionally tested for total VOC and formaldehyde content where required by brand specifications. Batch traceability records link resin lot, mold cavity, production date, and test results to every shipped carton. Third-party SGS or Intertek reports are issued on request.

Equipment backing production stability. The plant operates 14 vertical injection molding machines (200T–400T), 8 desiccant dehumidifying dryers, 2 CNC mold centers, a CMM inspection station, a Ross flex tester, a jungle test chamber, 2 sole-unit bonding press lines, and an automated per-cavity weight sorter. This setup supports batch-to-batch hardness variation below 2 Shore D points and consistent sole-unit bond strength across high-volume OEM programs.

Industrial Application Scenarios

01/

Brand OEM match football boots. Polyester-grade TPU outsoles (Shore 72D–75D, DIN ≤ 110 mm³) with FG or AG stud geometry are supplied to branded football boot manufacturers for match-day footwear. The full sole unit option (outsole + EVA midsole bonded) arrives at the brand's assembly factory ready for upper cementing, reducing the brand's in-house sole assembly steps.

02/

Private label training football shoes. Polyether-grade TPU outsoles (Shore 70D–72D) with AG or TF traction patterns are supplied to private label and distributor brands for training and academy footwear. Polyether's 5-year hydrolysis resistance makes these soles suitable for export to tropical and high-humidity markets where polyester-grade soles may degrade prematurely.

03/

High-volume athletic footwear programs. Asterism supplies TPU football shoe soles to large athletic footwear brands under OEM agreements, with production capacity exceeding 50,000 pairs per month across multiple mold tools. Batch traceability, AQL 2.5 inspection, and brand-specific test protocols are standard for these programs.

04/

Football-specific retail and lifestyle brands. TPU sole plates with fashion tread patterns, custom colors, and brand logo debossing are supplied to football-lifestyle and streetwear brands for casual and retro football-inspired sneakers. The outsole-only option allows these brands to assemble the sole unit with their own midsole foam.

05/

Aftermarket and replacement soles. Standard FG/AG TPU outsole plates compatible with popular football boot last geometries are supplied to boot repair workshops, customizers, and aftermarket retailers. Pre-treated bonding surfaces (corona ≥ 38 dynes/cm) are standard for re-soling operations.

06/

Full sole unit supply to assembly factories. Shoe assembly factories without in-house sole molding capability source complete TPU + EVA sole units from Asterism, arriving pre-bonded and ready for upper attachment. This reduces factory capital investment in injection molding equipment and EVA press lines.

FAQ

1 8

Q: When should polyester-based TPU be specified versus polyether-based TPU for football shoe soles?

A: Specify polyester-grade TPU when maximum abrasion resistance (DIN ≤ 110 mm³) and tensile strength (≥ 35 MPa) are required, typically for FG match boots and artificial-turf training shoes where sole wear is the primary failure mode. Specify polyether-grade TPU when hydrolysis resistance is critical - polyether survives 5 years in 70°C / 95% RH jungle testing versus 3 years for polyester - making it the correct choice for footwear exported to Southeast Asia, South America, and other high-humidity regions. Polyether is approximately 10–15% higher in material cost. For global distribution with mixed climate exposure, we recommend polyether as the default grade.

Q: What is required for dual-color injection to match club or brand team colors?

A: The full sole unit option includes the injection-molded TPU outsole, EVA or PU midsole foam (customer-specified density and hardness), and a pre-bonded assembly ready for upper cementing. Bonding process: TPU outsole contact surface is corona-treated to ≥ 38 dynes/cm, solvent-free PU adhesive (2.5–3.0 g per pair) is applied to both surfaces, activated at 60°C, and pressed at 4–6 bar for 15–20 seconds. Peel strength exceeds 6 N/25 mm after 24-hour cure. The customer provides the EVA midsole foam or approves Asterism-sourced foam. Full sole units ship in 18–25 days for standard configurations.

Q: What is the OEM tooling, prototype, and mass-production timeline for a custom TPU football shoe sole?

A: Phase 1 - Prototype: aluminum mold (USD 800–1,500), first TPU samples in 12–15 days, used for traction testing, fit verification, and brand approval. Phase 2 - Production tooling: steel mold (USD 3,000–6,000 for single-color, USD 5,000–8,000 for dual-color), 25–30 day lead time. Phase 3 - Mass production: 2,000 pair minimum per design, delivered in 15–20 days after tooling approval. Full sole unit assembly adds 3–5 days. Tooling cost is refundable against annual volume above 50,000 pairs per design.
